University of Toronto PDE/Applied Math/Analysis Seminar Wednesday 15 November, 3:10-4pm Fields Institute Library SPEAKER: Cristina Draghici (Aalborg, and Washington U. St. Louis) TITLE: Rearrangements on the unit circle ABSTRACT: In this talk I will present two types of rearrangements: polarization, which is a very simple rearrangement of a function, also called two-point rearrangement, and the symmetric decreasing rearrangement. Then I will talk about integral inequalities of functions. Some of these inequalities can be proved using the polarization technique, others cannot. I will mainly focus on inequalities which cannot be proved by polarization, and present an inequality on the unit circle involving two diffeomorphisms, and I will give a complete characterization of these diffeomorphisms. ------------------------------------------------------------------ University of Toronto PDE/Applied Math/Analysis Seminar http://www.math.toronto.edu/appmath/ 2006-2007 organizers: Pieter Blue pblue@ math.toronto.edu Almut Burchard almut@ math.toronto.edu Robert McCann mccann@ math.toronto.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------
