University of Toronto PDE/Applied Math/Analysis Seminar Friday 1 December 12:10-1:00pm 6183 Bahen Center SPEAKER: Marjolaine Puel (Rutgers and Toulouse) TITLE: A mass transport appraoch for the relativistic heat equation. ABSTRACT: In this talk, we present the Jordan-Kinderleherer-Otto's discrete scheme to construct solutions for the relativistic heat equation. This scheme is based on a mass transport problem involving a discontinuous cost function which is characterisitic for a relativistic phenomenum and the underlying mass transport problem is one of the principal difficulties. The limiting process to obtain the continuous equation involves a monotonicity argument. This is a joint work with X. Cabre, J.A. Carrillo and R. McCann. ------------------------------------------------------------------ University of Toronto PDE/Applied Math/Analysis Seminar http://www.math.toronto.edu/appmath/ 2006-2007 organizers: Pieter Blue pblue@ math.toronto.edu Almut Burchard almut@ math.toronto.edu Robert McCann mccann@ math.toronto.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------
