University of Toronto PDE/Applied Math/Analysis Seminar Friday 6 October, 12:10-1:00pm 2195 Bahen Center SPEAKER: Walid Abou Salem TITLE: Large deviations for quantum spin systems out of equilibrium and a nonequilibrium central limit theorem ABSTRACT: The nonequilibrium steady state (NESS) of a quantum spin system composed of a finite subsystem coupled to infinite reservoirs at different temperatures is considered. The large deviation principle for the distribution of empirical averages of NESS expectation value of onsite observables in the thermodynamic limit is proven. In particular, under suitable assumptions on the interaction, a high temperature cluster expansion is used to show the existence of the corresponding large deviation generating functional. Furthermore, analyticity of the large deviation generating functional implies a nonequilibrium central limit theorem. As an application, the NESS of the two-sided XY-chain is considered. ------------------------------------------------------------------ University of Toronto PDE/Applied Math/Analysis Seminar http://www.math.toronto.edu/appmath/ 2006-2007 organizers: Pieter Blue pblue@ math.toronto.edu Almut Burchard almut@ math.toronto.edu Robert McCann mccann@ math.toronto.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------
