The aim of this Laboratory in the first two years will be to study and develop expertise in the theory and implementation aspects of symmetric and asymmetric (public key) encryption methods and the mathematics underlying them. Topics of interest include:
- Symmetric Protocols: DES, 3DES, AES
- Arithmetic of Finite Fields
- Arithmetic of Abelian varieties and Elliptic Curves over finite fields
- RSA and ECC
- Computational algebraic number theory, the number field sieve, in particular calculation of Hecke polynomials, their factorization
- Modular forms
- Index calculus and the discrete log problem
- Arithmetic on Jacobians of Hyperelliptic curves
