Sebastián Olano

I am a non-tenure-track Assistant Professor (limited term) in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Toronto. Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, and completed my Ph.D. under the direction of Mihnea Popa at Northwestern University.

My research lies in Algebraic Geometry, with an emphasis on complex geometry, Hodge theory, and singularity theory. I study the geometry and topology of algebraic varieties, with a particular focus on how singularities shape these structures. I use Hodge-theoretic and birational methods, with my recent work often using tools such as D-modules and mixed Hodge modules.
